I'm all for making safespots somewhat easier to find, however I think it is VERY important that player skill is still required rather than just character skill.
All that is necessary is an improvement to the current scanner, perhaps only available when you have a certain module fitted, that would allow more freedom in where you are allowed to warp. This could actually be integrated rather nicely into the new tactical view....
Imagine this. To locate a safespot you zoom out the tactical view to cover the whole system. You then run directional scans until you locate the cone in which the object you are looking for lies. You could then 'lock' this scanned cone into place and have it display on the zoomed out tactical view. It would then be possible to warp to any position(not object) within this 'locked' scan-cone.
You could then move your ship to a different location, again directionally scan for the object and 'lock' another scanned cone into place. You would then know that the object lay in the area where the cones overlap. This overlapping section could even be highlighted on the tactical view.
You can then rinse and repeat with other locations until you have the position of the safespot locked down to a reasonably small area by overlapping more cones. At that point it should be possible to get very close to the object in question by just warping to a point in the overlapping cone area.
I think a system like this would simplify locating safespots compared to the situation now, while still preserving some of the player skill in being an accomplished explorer/scout. This feature could even be restricted to Covert Ops frigs if need be.... ----------------------------------------

Digi's post is on the money. It would be very sad to see player skill removed from safespot location. It's one of the few things in Eve that requires actually you to think in 3d. Do we really want everything to be point and click? ----------------------------------------
